It was confirmed last week that Google had launched and updated their Search Engine Results Pages with longer search snippets to max 320 characters. Though Danny Sullivan, founder of Search Engine Land stated that it is a dynamic thing and that we donâ€™t need to update your Meta description to make it longer. Therefore, your pages must consist of contents that will support Googleâ€™s new update. Usually, there are a lot of webpages with few body contents specifically on the Homepage. With itâ€™s dynamic functionality, Google might not be able to fetch content automatically â€“ to which you might need to update your Meta Description on the said page.
Googleâ€™s spokesperson message:
â€œWe recently made a change to provide more descriptive and useful snippets, to help people better understand how pages are relevant to their searches. This resulted in snippets becoming slightly longer, on average.â€
A Google SERP tracker tool, RankrangerÂ has been tracking it had confirmed from their chart that it has appeared longer recently. The length has raised from 160 characters to almost 230 characters on average.
